Unconventional Vehicles
This is an informational guide to the City of Hesston’s ordinances governing the operation of certain unconventional vehicles. The purpose of this guide is to promote the health, safety and welfare of all persons operating these vehicles in the City of Hesston. This guide is specific to the City of Hesston. Other cities and rural areas may differ on legal requirements.Registration Information
To Register an unconventional vehicle with the city, bring proof of liability insurance, along with information on the vehicle’s make, model, and serial number or vehicle identification number to the Hesston Police Department at 444 N Lancaster St between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday. A one-time $25.00 registration fee per vehicle will be collected at that time.
Work-Site Utility Vehicles

Requirements
- Must register with the police department
- Must have liability insurance coverage
- Comply with all traffic rules and regulations
- Operation only between sunrise and sunset unless equipped with lights
- Cannot be operated on Interstate, Federal or State highway
- Must be operated by a licensed driver and operate in accordance with such license
- The registration decal must be visibly displayed on a Work-Site Utility Vehicle if operated on public streets
Micro Utility Trucks

Requirements
- Must register with the police department
- Must have liability insurance coverage
- Comply with all traffic rules and regulations
- Cannot be operated on Interstate, Federal or State highway
- Must be operated by a licensed driver and operate in accordance with such license
- The registration decal must be visibly displayed on a Micro Utility Truck if operated on public streets
Golf Carts

Requirements
- Must register with the police department
- Must have liability insurance coverage
- Comply with all traffic rules and regulations
- Cannot be operated between Sunset and Sunrise
- Cannot be operated on streets of posted speed limit in excess of 30 mph
- Must be operated by a licensed driver and operate in accordance with such license
- Golf Carts must have Vehicle Identification or serial number
- Must have all safety devices supplied by manufacturer including rear view mirror
- The registration decal must be visibly displayed on a Golf Cart operated on public streets
